Staying paleo & preparing for a colonoscopy

I honestly don’t even know how to start this blog post…but when I was preparing for colonoscopy and endoscopy, I was googling how to stay paleo while prepping and wondered around Whole Foods looking lost because I had no idea where to start.

I’m here to help. This might seem like a weird topic, but who knows when you might have to prepare for a colonoscopy and you want to do your best to stay paleo. It’s hard, because part of being paleo is eating real food….and when you’re preparing, you can’t eat food. Trust me, it sucks. A lot. But then it’s over and you can eat all the food.

My tips & my day

First off, try to sleep as late as possible. I still had to go to work…so I had to wake up at some point. I slept in about 30 minutes later and got up, got dressed and headed off for the day.

I packed a “lunch” for the day. I tried to still drink my liquids at normal meal times so I wouldn’t feel like I was starving myself. I packed bone broth, Topo Chico (carbonation makes me feel full) and two GoodPop Popsicles in the coconut lime flavor.

For breakfast, I had water (allll the water) and some black coffee.

I had a popsicle at 11 am for a snack.

For lunch, I had Epic bone broth.

Around 2pm I had half a popsicle. I was starting to get really light-headed and was not feeling well at all, so I decided I needed something.img_5992

I went home and took a nice long nap. I was feeling miserable, so a nap was needed.

For dinner, I had miso soup (without tofu or nori).

Prep

After having only liquids all day, I was ready to get the prep over. I chugged the SuprepĀ (like full on CHUGGED) because I wanted it over as soon as possible. Dealing with the rest of the prep wasn’t that bad. I hadn’t eaten a ton the day before and I think that really helped. I did have to wake up at 4am and drink another Suprep mixture. That one was a lot worse, because I was exhausted and I knew how gross it tasted.

The procedure

I’d had a colonoscopy/endoscopy one other time in my life, so I knew what to expect. The actual procedure is definitely the easiest part. They give you great drugs, you go to sleep, you wake-up and it’s done. Easy.
