This was my second visit to San Pedro, Belize. I visited back in May with my mom to celebrate my ten-year heart transplant birthday. I quickly fell in love with this adorable island town.
We meet again
After falling in love with San Pedro, I could not wait to return. When I saw Southwest having a sale on flights, I texted the family group text and suggested a week vacation around thanksgiving. I was shocked when everyone agreed.
This past week was the first time since high school, that I’ve spent more than four days with my brother. We’re growing up and sadly, trying to align schedules is harder than ever.
Here are a few of my favorite places in San Pedro:
Ak’bol Yoga Report
I love everything about Ak’bol (which means the heart of the village in Maya). The salbutes are absolutely amazing and easily my favorite Belizean meal. On Monday, we attended a yoga class, which are offered throughout the week, and are taught by one of the owners.
The yoga classes are almost two hours long and are so relaxing. With the ocean roaring in the back ground and the sun shining, it’s easy to forget where you are.
The Dive Bar
We’d driven by The Dive Bar a million times, but had never stopped. Steven and I stopped by after dinner one night and it ended up being so mun fun! They had a great bartender and an amazing band. We loved singing along and two-stepping the night away. I highly recommend this bar for a night out.
El Fogon
Steven and I went here for date night. We had some amazing slow cooked pulled pork tacos. They cook the pork in a huge plantain leaf for two days. Oh my gosh. Easily, the BEST pulled pork tacos I have ever had. We also enjoyed lobster, steak and coconut curry shrimp. I absolutely love ordering rice in Belize because most of the time, they cook it in coconut milk. It is amazing!
My philosophy on vacations and eating healthy
I’ll be straight up honest with y’all, for the most part on vacations, my diet goes out the window. I want to enjoy my trip and everything surrounding it, including food. The two main things I stayed away from was chicken (for obvious reasons) and wheat. I did have wheat here and there, but tried my best to stay away. I enjoyed a lot of beer and adult drinks and didn’t feel guilty about any of it.
I didn’t workout, except for yoga, during my trip and I’m ok with that. My boyfriend woke up and jogged some mornings, so I was proud of him to do that. I really enjoy my sleep, so I definitely chose sleep over working out. Now that I’m back home…Camp Gladiator starts tomorrow.
